KSHSAA announced 2014-15 classes

By Staff Report - | Sep 30, 2014

The Kansas State High School Activities Association has released non-football classifications for the 2014-15 academic year.

The classes, which were released Friday, reflect enrollment figures as of Sept. 22. No Kaw Valley League or Northeast Kansas League schools moved from their 2013-14 classes.

With an enrollment of 611 students, Tonganoxie will remain Class 4A-I in volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball and 4A in all other sports. Fellow KVL schools Bonner Springs (756), Basehor-Linwood (656) and Piper (569) will join the Chieftains as 4A-I schools.

Bonner Springs is a 5A school in the current two-year football cycle, which doesn’t count seniors, but is the largest 4A school in the non-football count. Bishop Ward (345) is the league’s only 4A-II school. Mill Valley (1,287), Turner (1,182) and Lansing (891) will remain in 5A.

McLouth is a 3A school in football, but the Bulldogs’ enrollment of 150 puts them in 2A alongside fellow NEK members Jefferson County North (133), Jackson Heights (132) and Valley Falls (121). Pleasant Ridge (231), Maur Hill-Mount Academy (204), Oskaloosa (178) and Horton (155) will compete in 3A, while Leavenworth-Immaculata (87) is the league’s only 1A school.
