There have been a few games in which the team has had to battle into the wind.

Monday was no different as the Chieftains fell, 5-0, to Baldwin at the THS soccer complex.

The Bulldogs got up early on THS and never looked back. BHS scored three goals in the first half and then dropped in another couple goals in the second half for the shutout victory.

THS had a little momentum in the second half, as the Chieftains managed some shots on goal, including their best opportunity with 27:11 left in the game, but the home team just couldn’t cash in.

THS girls soccer coach Justin Seever said it seems the team was fighting the wind even in the second half after switching goals.

“The last four home games the wind has not been in our favor,” Seever said.

But, he noted the team also had its own struggles in losing to Baldwin.

Baldwin’s Eric Petry scored Baldwin’s first goal in the second half when she connected for the score with 23:32 left in the game.

The Bulldogs tacked on a final goal thanks to a penalty kick with 16:28 left in the game.

Monday’s loss dropped THS to 2-6-1, though the squad is 1-1-1 in its last three games.

Tonganoxie blanked Bishop Ward, 10-0, for it second victory of the season last week. It also was Tonganoxie’s second victory of the season against BWHS.

On Friday, THS traveled to Leavenworth and mustered a 1-1 tie against the Pioneers.

Tonganoxie’s Morgan Galvin scored the equalizer with 1:11 left in regulation.

Of Tonganoxie’s six losses, three have been one-goal defeats and the other three blowout losses.

Seever said inconsistency is his young team’s biggest struggle right now.

“I don’t know which version of the team is going to show up each day,” Seever said.

The team will try to get another victory later today when it faces Kansas City Christian on the road. The varsity game is set to start at 5 p.m.
