Tonganoxie High wrestlers finish eighth at Holton tournament
The Tonganoxie High wrestling team finished in the middle of the pack at Saturday’s Gerald Sadowski Tournament in Holton.
THS placed eighth out of 15 teams with 91 points.
Shawnee Heights won the tournament with 215 points, while Holton placed second with 183.5 and Andover Central third with 146. Lansing took fourth with 143.5.
The Chieftains had five wrestlers place in the tournament. Aidan McClellan finished second in the 106-pound division, while Patterson Starcher placed third at 113.
McClellan lost to Pratt’s Dylan Pelland, who remained undefeated on the season with a 2-0 decision against McClellan, who fell to 11-10 on the year after the championship match.
Starcher (23-8) defeated Topeka West’s Zach Campbell (15-4) by a 3-0 decision.
Gad Huseman (21-7) took second at 120 after losing to Pratt’s Nick Lucas (19-2), 3-0, in the championship match.
At 138 Garrett Martin (20-11) finished the tournament with a fifth-place finish after getting a forfeit victory against Andover Central’s Dakota Rodd (22-4).
And in the 152-weight class, Andrew Dent placed sixth. Dent (5-4) fell to Lansing’s Zach Carricillo (10-8) by a 12-6 decision.
The Chieftains next will compete Saturday at the Baldwin Invitational.
