Tonganoxie High girls wins 2nd straight with home victory against Bishop Ward
The Tonganoxie High girls were rolling for two quarters — and then came the second half.
THS led Bishop Ward, 30-9, heading into the third quarter, but coach David Hall said his staff warned the team that the Cyclones would be making adjustments in the third quarter.
Ward did just that, going on a 9-0 run in the third quarter and a 10-2 run at the end of the game. The Cyclones upped its pressure defense in the second half, forcing several THS turnovers.
The Chieftains, though, did enough in the second half to hold on for a 41-34 victory and improved to 4-9 on the season.
“I thought in the first half we were clicking on all cylinders,” Hall said.
But as the THS coach noted, momentum can play a big role in a game and Ward definitely had it throughout much of the game.
“The big M,” Hall said.
Tonganoxie will be back in action next Friday against Piper in Kansas City, Kan.
