KSHSAA rolls out new classifications for schools
Tonganoxie will continue to remain where it is for high school classification, according to results the Kansas High School Activities Association recently released.
McLouth, meanwhile, will move down a class for football.
THS will continue to compete in Class 4A for its postseason play in all sports other than football. McLouth will continue to compete in 2A in those sports also.
MHS, however, currently competes in 3A for football, but will compete in 2A the next two years.
School classifications are based on enrollment figures for grades 9-12.
Football enrollment figures are based on grades 9-11. All figures are as of Sept. 21.
McLouth is one of the larger schools in 2A for both 2015-16 school classification and 2016-17 and 2017-18 football classification. For football, MHS is at 107 students. The 2A range is 63-119. For all other classification, McLouth’s enrollment is 140. The class range is 94-156.
Tonganoxie’s enrollment for football classification is 493 and part of Class 4A Division I. The range is 320-590. Tonganoxie’s number for all other classification is 624. Class 4A’s range is 265-773.
For non-football classification, area schools of note changing classes were Bonner Springs, which moved up to 5A from 4A, and Perry-Lecompton, which dropped from 4A to 3A.
For football, area schools aside from McLouth changing class affiliation were Baldwin and Topeka Hayden dropping from 4A Div. I to 4A Div. II and Perry-Lecompton moving down to 3A from 4A Div. II.
