Tonganoxie man to appear in court Monday following alleged stabbing
A 38-year-old Tonganoxie man will appear in court next week for a case involving an alleged stabbing Sunday night at a Tonganoxie apartment complex.
Clifford S. Shanks is scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Monday in Leavenworth County District Court. He faces one count of aggravated battery, three counts of aggravated child endangerment and one count of criminal damage to property.
According to police reports, Shanks allegedly visited an apartment in the 1200 block of Ridge Circle before 7 p.m. Shanks, the father of the three children living at the residence with their mother, wanted to get into the apartment. After being told to leave, he allegedly broke down the front door. The mother’s current boyfriend, a 30-year-old Tonganoxie man, tried to intervene. That’s when Shanks allegedly stabbed him in the back. They continued to fight and the altercation moved outside, according to Jeff Brandau, Tonganoxie police chief.
That’s when officers arrived on scene.
The 30-year-old boyfriend was taken to Kansas University Hospital, while Shanks was taken to an area hospital for treatment because he complained of chest pains. He then was released from the hospital and arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and aggravated assault.
Leavenworth County Sheriff’s officers responded to the scene with Tonganoxie police.
