New daytime book club with Grounded Coffeehouse starts next week

The Tonganoxie Public Library has started a new book club partnership with our neighbor across the street, Grounded Coffeehouse.

This monthly daytime book club will feature a wide variety of books and genres, so it’s perfect for the reader that wants to read it all. Our first meeting will be 12:30 p.m. April 23. The April book selection is “The Book of Lost Hours” by Hayley Gelfuso. There are copies to check out at the front desk and with the libby app.

Grounded is also offering a discount to all participants on their drinks! Just ask for the book club discount during our meeting.

It’s Plant and Garden Exchange time!

One of the library’s most popular yearly programs returns next Saturday: the Plant and Garden Exchange.

Each year the exchange is different, and you never know what will be there. Anything plant or garden related is fair game, so it’s common to see divided plants, seedlings, houseplants, seeds, garden tools, accessories, vegetables, pots, and so much more.

Everything is FREE to a new home! Everything goes quickly! Here’s how it works: On April 24, drop off anything you’d like to donate to the exchange.

Please label all plants and seeds so people know what they are. On April 25, from 10-11 a.m., those who have donated to the exchange get to check out the plants.

Starting at 11 a.m., anything that is still here is fair game for anyone to take home regardless of whether you donated. You can email Kim at kimd@tonganoxielibrary.org if you have questions about the exchange.

Job-readiness workshops for teens starting next week

Just for teens!

The library will host two workshops this month to help teens learn how to prepare for the job search. At 6 p.m. April 23, the focus will be on resume building.

Teens will prepare resumes with templates and brainstorm the best approach.

On April 30, teens can engage in one-on-one mock interviews. The interviews will be scheduled from 2:30-7:30 p.m. Teens will be able to practice real world skills in an interview and receive feedback to use for the future.

Both programs require registration, and teens will reserve an interview time slot. Call the library at 913-845-3281 to sign up for one or both workshops.
