Tonganoxie debate team to compete at state this weekend

Tonganoxie High will compete in the Class 4A state debate championships Friday and Saturday in Winfield.

THS will have teams in both 2-speaker and 4-speaker state debate.

The team advanced to state Dec. 21 after taking fourth place at the McPherson regional. THS went 3-5 at the regional. McPherson (8-0), Butler (6-2) and Clay Center (3-5) all earned state berths at regional as well. Bishop Miege will be one of four teams from the Coffeyville Regional that also will be at state. Miege went 12-0 and won the regional. Parsons went (9-3) for second place, Paola 7-5 for third and Coffeyville 7-5 for fourth.

Tonganoxie will be one of 13 schools competing in the 2-speaker state championships.

Other teams are Abilene, Augusta, Buhler, Fort Scott, Independence, McPherson, Parsons, Bishop Miege, Rock Creek, Hayden, Ulysses and Wellington.
