The Tonganoxie Recreation Commission’s inaugural Float Fest was supposed to be last month, but Mother Nature had different plans.

Severe thunderstorms blowing through the area on the event’s originally scheduled date of July 14 caused the community event to be rescheduled.

Tonganoxie Recreation Commission staff announced the move on Facebook that day.

“We have decided to reschedule this event due to inclement weather,” the Facebook post read. “We want to make the most fun of this pool party, and the predicted weather will affect our ability to safely continue tonight. We’re so sorry!”

The forecast, per weather.com, calls for a high of 86 degrees. There’s also a small chance for precipitation, but thunderstorms weren’t expected as of Tuesday afternoon.

The first-time event now will take place 8-10 p.m. Thursday. For those who have already purchased wristbands, TRC announced that it would honor the new date for the party. Wristband registration will be open through Thursday.
