New Tonganoxie police officers introduced at council meeting

Tonganoxie City Council Chambers were packed with onlookers in the opening minutes of Monday’s meeting.

Six new officers in the Tonganoxie Police Department were introduced during the meeting. Josh Parkhurst, Bradley Lee, Arianne Kopp, Michael Hagerty, Matt Young and Eric Janesko are new to the local force.

Chief Greg Lawson also swore in Parkhurst, Kopp and Hagerty with joining a police force for the first time. Family and friends filled the chambers to see the officers introduced during the regular meeting.

During the meeting, the council also:

* Approved a public firework display permit application for Sept. 15. The Tonganoxie Recreation Commission will be sponsoring the fireworks display for a second consecutive year in conjunction with Tonganoxie Days, which will be the next day in downtown Tonganoxie. There also will be musical entertainment at the TRC ball fields as part of the fireworks show.

* Approved levy of special assessments against two properties. The assessments are $823 for 602 Yoeke St. (public notices, certified mailings, mowing and weed removal) and $916 for 723 Yoeke St. (mowing and weed removal). The delinquent costs will be added to the tax rolls as miscellaneous special assessments.
