Voters to decide Tonganoxie school board configuration
Voters will decide how future school board positions will be structured.
Tonganoxie USD 464 recently voted to put the measure on the November ballot. Currently there are six positions that require candidates to live within certain boundaries throughout the district, along with an at-large position. If voters approve the change in November, all positions will be at-large, so anyone can run regardless of where they reside in the district.
Board President Justin Sturgeon noted that he ran unopposed when joining the board and again his unopposed this year in Position 3. Drew Overmiller, who is in Position 1, is not seeking re-election. No one is running for that position, so either a write-in candidate will gain the seat or the school board will select a member from a field of candidates after the election.
Kaija Baldock, who is in her second term as the Position 2 representative, is not seeking re-election. Scott M. Elliott, Ryan Brune and Connie O’Brien all are running in the Position 2 race.
In the Position 7 race, incumbent Stephanie Shupe is seeking re-election against challenger Susan E. Stieben.
