Judges taste-test various pies for Friday’s pie contest at Tonganoxie Public Library.

Judges awarded winners Friday at the Tonganoxie Public Library Pie Contest.

A panel of community members that included members of the Tonganoxie City Fire and Tonganoxie Police departments tasted the various entries and made their decisions.

Here are some of the entries in the Tonganoxie Public Library pie contest.

Marlene Golubski won Grand Prize with her Dutch apple pie. Emily Schneider won first place in fruit pies with her Pretty Pie, which was an apple pie.

First place in the nut pie category went to Trudy Bowen, who baked a Dixie pie with walnuts for her entry.

While there were several apple pies, participants also entered rhubarb and gooseberry/blackberry entries pies.

Other bakers in the event were Patty Szini, Peggy Pistora, Karen Rohrer, Nicholas Brewer and Randa Lewis.

Single pies were then sold at the library as a fundraiser for Chieftain Cafe.

The drive raised $125 for the program, which provides food and snacks for youths at the library.
