Tonganoxie High homecoming is this week

Tonganoxie High School homecoming royalty candidates have been selected by the student body. Homecoming king and queen will be crowned before the Tonganoxie-Chanute football game Sept. 15 at Beatty Field. Candidates gathered for photos Thursday at Grinter Farms. Tonganoxie Homecoming Week is here.

Festivities started Monday in the Tonganoxie school district with Spirit Days.

The overall theme this year is Once Upon a Time with a bit of a Disney feel.

Monday was Twin Day (students dressed like twins) and then Tuesday was Beach/Tropical Tourist Day (Moana).

Today is Pajamas Day (Sleeping Beauty), while Thursday is Denim Day (Cinderella). Friday will be the traditional Red and White Day.

A parade will start Friday at the high school, make its way through the Tonganoxie elementary and middle school campuses and then back to the downtown area for the remainder of the parade and a pep rally.

Floats will travel to TES/TMS around 1:15 p.m. and then move through the TMS front lot around 1:45 p.m. before making their way to Fourth Street. The pep rally will then be at Fourth and Bury streets. The pep rally is set to start aorund 2:15 p.m.

This year’s homecoming opponent is Chanute.

THS will play the Comets at 7 p.m. Friday at Beatty Field.

Before the game, homecoming candidates and their parents will start lining up about 6:15 p.m. on the Beatty Field track. The coronation ceremony will start at 6:30 p.m. on the field.

Candidates this year are Kasia Baldock, Lilly Breuer, Marissa Bowlin, Journey Creten, Mallory Dick, Caroline Keene, Lucille Rieke, Noah Bailey, Brendan Bowlin, Isaiah Holthaus, Harold Merel Jr., Thomas Messersmith, Roman Staples and Aiden Van Middlesworth.

Police and fire departments will be in Friday’s parade, as will VFW, the THS Marching Chieftains, fall sports teams, dance and cheer teams, class floats nad club floats and candidates.

This year’s homecoming dance will be 8-10:30 p.m. Saturday at teh THS commons area. DJ Mile High will be the musical entertainment.

Homecomng Week happens to coincide with Tongie Days festivities this year, so there will be a great deal of activities in Tonganoxie later this week.

The Tongaoxie Recreation Commission fireworks display will be at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds Friday night, with bands performing in advance of the display. The display will start after it gets dark. Tongie Days and the Tonganoxie Auto Tech Car Show will be 8-10:30 a.m. at THS, while the Tonganoxie Invitational cross country meet will be that morning at the fairgrounds.
