Tonganoxie FFA members stand with their transportation of choice this past week for Drive Your Tractor to School Day as part of National FFA Week. The Tonganoxie FFA chapter had a busy few days for National FFA Week this past week, but the group also will be having an open house and the FFA Alumni Auction, which is a major fundraiser for the local FFA organization.
This past week, the Tonganoxie FFA continued its tradition of celebrating National FFA Week in different ways each day.
For instance, local members participated in Drive Your Tractor to School Day and then later in the week visited the American Royal for the Western Farm Show in Kansas City, Mo.
On Saturday, chapter members served food at the 43rd annual Tonganoxie FFA Community Breakfast at the THS cafeteria.
FFA members and alumni now turn their attention toward next week’s open house, which will be Wednesday, March 6 at the high school.
Doors open at 5 p.m. when visitors can begin touring the agriculture facilities at THS, see student projects from the agriculture vocational department and check out chapter accomplishments.
At 6 p.m. there will be the community dinner. A traditional school lunch will be on the menu this year with chili and cinnamon rolls.
There also is the FFA Alumni Fundraising Live, Pie and Silent Auctions.
The silent auction begins at 5:30 p.m. and then the live auction, which includes the ever-popular pie auction, begins at 6:45 p.m. in the cafeteria.
Money raised during the event will provides scholarships for seniors and chapter leadership events.
At the “hired hands for a day” live auction, FFA students put their skills up for sale. Bidders can hire students to work on the farm or ranch, at the house, or in a shop on the project of your choice.
A pie auction will feature tasty treats from some locally famous bakers. And a silent auction will offer audience favorites from local and agriculture businesses.
