A Leavenworth woman who used a stolen debit card at a Walmart self-checkout line awaits sentencing after pleading guilty to a charge related to the theft and unauthorized use of a stolen debit card.

On March 1, 2024, an investigation began after a woman reported to Leavenworth police that her debit card had been stolen while she was at a gas station near 6th and Metropolitan Avenue. The card was later used at the Leavenworth Walmart for a purchase totaling $116.19. Surveillance video from Walmart’s self-checkout system identified two suspects: Brandy Jo Hunt, 38, of Lansing, and a 26-year-old co-defendant. The video showed Hunt inserting the debit card into the card reader while the co-defendant pressed buttons on the computer system to complete the transaction. The purchase amount of $116.19 was displayed on the screen.

On April 2, 2025, Hunt pleaded guilty to one count of Unlawful Acts Concerning Computers. The court accepted her plea and found her guilty. She is scheduled for sentencing on May 7.

Hunt’s co-defendant was sentenced on Dec. 4, 2024.
