A new mural greets visitors who enter the Tonganoxie Recreation Commission Activity Center gymnasium through its main downstairs entrance. TRC expanded its hours of operations a couple weeks ago and staff look to continue to add more offerings.

Local hot wing enthusiasts will find out Saturday whether they can handle the heat.

Tonganoxie Recreation Commission is sponsoring its first hot wing challenge Saturday.

Hot Wing Havoc will be 1-3 p.m. Aug. 23 at Chieftain Park. The contest was limited to the first 10 people to register, and all spots have been filled.

Each participant will compete in five rounds of heat. Participants must finish eating at least two complete wings each round. Those who enter will be given 5 minutes for each round.

The hot sauces will come from Spicin Foods in Kansas City, Kansas.

Beverages are not allowed to drink during each round. Exceptions are made for choking and beverages are allowed during breaks.

Participants also are allowed to “tap out” at any time. Once they have tapped-out, they will be disqualified.

Completing each round will reward the participant a prize.

Those finishing Round 1 will receive TRC merchandise and those completing Round 2 will receive a TRC Rec Center punch card. Anyone will finishes Round 3 will earn a $10 Spicin’ gift card and those finishing Round 4 will receive a $10 sponsor gift card to be announced later.

Anyone finishing Round 5 will receive a Certificate of Heat Specialist, a social media shout-out, a one-year membership to the TRC Rec Center and a $25 Brother’s Market gift card.
