Here's a look Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, down Fourth Street in Tonganoxie following rain and heavy snowfall for Winter Storm Blair, which hit the area starting Saturday afternoon. Up to 2 inches could fall Jan. 9, per a National Weather Service winter weather advisory.Superintendent Loren Feldkamp commended the district’s maintenance crew for its hours of work in removing snow from the parking lots and sidewalks.
“This was a huge endeavor on our maintenance crew’s part,” Feldkamp said in his monthly report. “There is no perfect way to remove snow and ice on all of our parking lots and sidewalks.
We will always be subject to complaints. The maintenance crew were doing the best they could under the conditions they were given.”
Tonganoxie received 12.8 inches of snow during the recent snowstorm.
Students missed two days of school due to the weather last week. Winter break ended Jan. 7, so students still were on break earlier in the week when other area school districts were canceling classes. USD 464 did not have school Wednesday, Jan. 8, or Friday. Classes resumed Thursday, but more snowfall overnight led to cancellation of Friday classes.
