The Leavenworth County Justice Center at 601 S. Third St., LeavenworthA Leavenworth County jury convicted 43-year-old Gerome Keith King II, of Kansas City, Missouri, July 1 on multiple charges stemming from an operation involving numerous agencies, including the Leavenworth Police Department, per a release from the office of Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson.
On Jan. 11, 2025, King and another man confronted an individual near 13th Street and Metropolitan Avenue in Leavenworth, demanding to know the whereabouts of a package that had been delivered the previous day as part of an undercover operation.
King used a handgun to force the victim inside a residence, where he continued to demand information about the package.
The victims informed him that police had already taken it. During the incident, one of the victims attempted to grab King’s gun, causing the gun to discharge. No one was struck by the gunfire, and King fled the scene with the other man in a red car.
Investigators later used surveillance cameras to obtain the vehicle’s license plate, ultimately connecting the car to King.
After a one-day trial and approximately one hour of deliberation, the jury found King guilty of kidnapping, aggravated burglary, and two counts of aggravated assault. He was acquitted of aggravated robbery.
Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 15, 2025.
“I’d like to thank the law enforcement agencies, including Leavenworth police, who help keep our streets safe,” Thompson said.
