A three-vehicle accident happened about 4:30 p.m. Thursday near U.S. Highway 24-40 and Honey Creek Road south of Tonganoxie.

The accident involved a 2011 Ford truck driven by a 20-year-old Tonganoxie woman, a 2010 Chevrolet sedan driven by a 39-year-old Tonganoxie man and a 2022 Chevrolet vehicle driven by a 29-year-old Tonganoxie woman, according to a report from the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s office.

The 2011 Ford truck was headed north on U.S. 24-40 when it rear-ended the 2010 Chevy sedan and then rear-ended the 2022 Chevy vehicle, according to video footage from a nearby establishment. The first collision caused the sedan to travel across the oncoming lane in front of an oncoming truck and coming to rest in the east ditch, according to footage. The sedan narrowly missed a collision with the oncoming truck, according to the video.

The sheriff’s report said the driver of the Ford truck was cited for a speed violation on the road, which was wet due to Thursday’s thunderstorms.

Drivers of the three vehicles were checked at the scene by Leavenworth County EMS. Drivers declined medical transportation and said they would seek medical follow-up as needed, according to the report.
