McLouth Happenings: Historical Old Jefferson Town; BBQ Blowout; garage sales

McLouthHistorical Old Jefferson Town
Historical Old Jefferson Town in Oskaloosa is open this month through Sept. 28.
The site is open 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays and 1-4 p.m. Sundays. A volunteer will be available in the Reynolds building for assistance throughout the museum, as well as in the library for assistance with genealogical and historical research.
During the month of June, bridal gowns will be displayed in the Edmonds Chapel.
During the month of July, some of their collection of military uniforms will be on display, along with military quilts, and their history.
McLouth BBQ Blowout
Get a dose of Hometown Goodness at the 34th Annual McLouth BBQ Blowout, Northeast Kansas State BBQ Championship, sanctioned by KC Barbecue Society and sponsored by the McLouth Recreation Commission.
The event is at Prairie Park, 100 Bulldog Blvd. Festivities are 7-11 p.m. June 6, and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. June 7. Parking and admission are free and tram rides will be available.
On June 6, there will be a cornhole tournament, sponsored by Gus Barnett, as well as live music by “Southbound,” and a bounce house for youths. For more information about the corn hole tournament, call 785-224-6822.

Have your friends told you you’re the best griller around? Come test your skill for prizes in the all- new Backyard BBQ Division, sponsored by Jefferson County Area Chamber of Commerce. Entries judged according to the official Kansas City BBQ Society rules. There is an exception: you may grill on gas, wood or briquettes and no garnish rules. Participants cannot be a current member of a KCBS BBQ cooking team. Call 913-634-5267 for info and entry form.
There also will be a classic car, truck, motorcycle and tractor display. Bring your vehicle for display on June 7. Special parking is available for the show. Participants should arrive by 9 a.m., if possible. For additional information, contact Dan Holwick at 913-634-5267.

McLouth and the surrounding area will have numerous garage sales during BBQ Blowout Weekend.
