October reading challenge for youths begins today

A very popular October library challenge for kids starts today at Tonganoxie Public Library!

The 31 and Done Challenge offers kids a chance to pick from a wide variety of fun challenges like attending programs, doing crafts, reading in their costume or even guessing pieces of candy corn in a big jar. Do enough challenges to equal 31 points before the end of Halloween and kids will earn a prize and be entered to win a special big prize.

Be sure to pick up a challenge sheet at the front desk and work toward completion all month long!

Library hours update

The library will be closed this week on Friday all day for a staff development day.

Normal hours will resume on Saturday.

Next discussion in book talk series next week

The second book discussion with Sr. Rosie Kolich in the library’s Dearly Beloved book talk series is next week from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8.

The featured title for the Oct. discussion is the non-fiction book “Being Mortal” by Atul Gawande. The discussion should be thought provoking and insightful as the book looks at the quality of one’s life over time from a medical perspective. Copies of the book are available at the front desk and also through digital access with hoopla or libby.

Mini golf next week

The final Farmers Market happens next week on Oct. 9, and the library is offering a little entertainment for families while they shop.

In partnership with the Tonganoxie Recreation Commission, the library will offer a miniature golf experience. It’s open to all ages and starts at 5 p.m. Play will be available until the sun goes down, and it begins to get dark.
