Tornado briefly touches down south of Tonganoxie early Monday, National Weather Service says

Tonganoxie has eclipsed a population of 5,500, according to estimates recently released. The next official county will come with the 2020 U.S. Census.

A tornado touched down early Monday morning south of Tonganoxie, according to the National Weather Service.

Kansas City television affiliates KMBC and KCTV reported that NWS confirmed that an EF1 tornado touched down around 3:30 a.m. Monday west of U.S. Highway 24-40 between Hemphill and Honey Creek roads. The tornado was on the ground for about 50 yards and the storm damaged a building and trees wiht a high wind speed of 105 mph, per the reports.
