Feldkamp steps down; new 464 leader taking over in interim

Shawn Poyser will serve as interim superintendent through June 30, the school board decided during a special meeting Wednesday, March 11 at the USD 464 Administrative Center.
Board members met in executive session for attorney-client privilege with the district’s attorney through Kansas Association of School Boards, Lori Kopp. The board met again in executive session to discuss individual employee contracts in a second executive session.
When the board retrurned, it voted, 7-0, to accept the voluntary resignation of superintendent Loren Feldkamp immediately, Feldkamp, who was set to retire at the end of June, had been on administrative leave with pay for more than a month.
The board then approved, 7-0, that the complaint filed on Jan. 9 with the board be closed and no further action be taken.
In a third action item, the board approved, 7-0, to hire Dr. Shawn Poyser as interim superintendent through the end of June. He recently was hired earlier this winter be the district’s next superintendent starting July 1.
Terms of the interim agreement will be determined at a later school board meeting.
Poyser’s schedule in the district will be shared as it becomes available, according to a release from the district. In the meantime, district leadership will continue to support daily operations.
Becky Nasalroad, former director of communications and engagement for the district spoke at the regular March 9 meeting.
“I’m here to express my concern about how board policy is appoiled when employee safety is at stake,” she said at the meeting, continuing that she filed a formal complaint against the superintendent alleging gender discrimination, bullying and threats toward staff.
