General Election is Nov. 7
The 2023 general election is three months away.
Primaries were Tuesday, though no local races required the runoff election.
Sept. 23 is the deadline to transmit Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act ballots.
There’s still time to register to vote, but the last day to register is Oct. 17. Leavenworth County will start mailing advance voting ballots on Oct. 18, which also is the first day registered voters can cast advance ballots in the election office at the Leavenworth County Courthouse. Oct. 31 is the last day to request advance ballots to be mailed.
There is a noon deadline Nov. 6 to vote advance voting ballots in person at the election office.
Polls are open 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Election Day, which will be No. 7.
Here is a look at local races:
For Tonganoxie Mayor, incumbent David Frese is running for re-election. He has no challengers in his race.
In the Tonganoxie City Council race, there are two seats. Both incumbents are running for those seats, Jacob Dale and Jennifer McCutchen. A challenger, Joshua Kleczka, also will be vying for one of those two seats.
In the Tonganoxie USD 464 school board race, incumbent Justin Sturgeon is running for Position 3 unopposed, while Position 2 has three new faces vying for that position. Kaija Baldock, who is in her second term as the Position 2 representative, is not seeking re-election. Scott M. Elliott, Ryan Brune and Connie O’Brien all are running in the Position 2 race.
In the Position 7 race, incumbent Stephanie Shupe is seeking re-election against challenger Susan E. Stieben.
Position 1 is held by Drew Overmiller, but he’s not seeking re-election. No one filed for that seat.
The Linwood Mayor race is between incumbent Brian Christenson and challenger Cassia S. Foley. In the Linwood City Council race, two incumbents, Crystal D. Eisman and Craig M. Walker, will be running unopposed.
Meanwhile, the Basehor City Council race has six candidates for three positions. Vernon J. Fields, Hayden P. Maples and Ben Sims. Challengers are Jeffrey W. Body, Vickie L. McEnroe and Blake Waters.
