Private services for Reginald Owen Lyerla, 64, are planned.
Mr. Lyerla died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at his home.
He was born Feb. 8, 1944, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Dale and Alberta (Cromer) Lyerla.
Mr. Lyerla pursued life-long learning, earning a doctorate of philosophy in chemistry in 1970. After working in the chemical field, he came home taking over the running of a longtime Overland Park family business — Dale’s Sporting Goods — while also establishing Dale’s Athletic Club.
A faithful Rotarian and a dedicated friend, Mr. Lyerla participated in many other activities and passions.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Boomer Lyerla; three children Kristy Acree, Brant Lyerla, and Logan Lyerla; a sister, Karen Lyerla; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at McGilley-Hoge Chapel, t 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park.
