Ruth Vander Tuig
Funeral services for Ruth Vander Tuig, 84, of Baldwin City, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the American Reformed Church in Primghar, Iowa. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Primghar.
Mrs. Vander Tuig died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at Baldwin Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on Aug. 22, 1924, in Springfield, S.D., the daughter of James and Hattie Vanden Berg Van Zyl. She moved with her family to O’Brien County, Iowa, where she graduated from Sanborn High School in 1942.
She and her husband farmed in the Sheldon and Primghar area for many years and spent their retirement years in Primghar. She later moved to Baldwin City.
Mrs. Vander Tuig was a member of the American Reformed Church in Primghar. She enjoyed participating in the women’s activities, and especially enjoyed the singing and music in church.
She married Richard Vander Tuig in November 1950 in Primghar. He died on Jan. 29, 2006.
She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Gloria Jean.
Survivors include two daughters, Blanche Vlieger of Omaha, Neb., and Roxane Vander Tuig of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a son, Paul Vander Tuig and wife Sheila, Baldwin City; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in Primghar is in charge of arrangements.
