Maureen Barnes
Kansas City, Kan. — Funeral Mass for Maureen A. Barnes, 70, Kansas City, Kan., will be Friday, April 17, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kan. Burial will be in Edwardsville Cemetery.
Mrs. Barnes died Monday, April 13, 2009, at Kansas University Hospital after a courageous battle with leukemia.
She was born Sept. 22, 1938, in Liberty, Mo.
Mrs. Barnes attended Catholic schools in Kansas City, Kan., and graduated from Ward High School in 1956. She had worked as a merchandiser for Hallmark Cards for 20 years and was active in the PTA at her children’s schools. She was a co-owner of Barnes Turf Equipment in Edwardsville and a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
She married Ray Barnes in 1958; he survives.
Other survivors include five children, Rae Ann Armstrong (Tim), Shawnee, John Barnes, Deborah Houston and Karen Barnes (Dennis Whitcomb), all of Kansas City, Kan., and Jenny Barnes Bock (Wendall), Parkville, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
A son-in-law, Brian Houston, and a grandson died earlier.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Bonner Springs, with a rosary service at 6 p.m.
