Geneva Thompson

Geneva Elizabeth Thompson, 86, of Holts Summit, Mo, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.
She was born March 15, 1923, in Green Forest, Arkansas, the daughter of Henry and Luna B. McCullough Parris. She was married in 1942 in California, Mo., to Elmer August Baker who was killed in World War II. She re-married in Lawrence in 1947 to James M. Witten Thompson who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Thompson was a realtor associate with Century 21, Paul Kolb and Associates until retiring in 1983. She also was employed by Smith Realty, Oberman Manufacturing Company, Tweedie Footwear Corporation and Brooks Truck Lines, all of Jefferson City. She graduated from Capital Commercial College and the Weaver Real Estate School in Jefferson City.
She was a member of the Union Hill Baptist Church in Holts Summit, where she served one year as a church clerk. She was a member of the J.O.Y. Sunday school class; Sigma Sigma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, New Bloomfield Alumni (where she served on the board); Retired Citizens of Holts Summit; I.B.E.W. Retirees’ Club; Summit Civic Association, American Legion Auxiliary, Post 5; served eight years as Girls State Chairman, V.F.W. Auxiliary and past secretary/treasurer of the Holts Summit Memorial Day Committee.
She is survived by two sons: David Bryan and wife Bobbie Thompson of Wainwright Mo., and Daniel Joseph Thompson and companion Susan Henderson of Holts Summit; two daughters: Sandra Joyce Baker and husband James Cardens of Baldwin City and Mildred Kay Thompson and husband Manuel Gutierrez of Grandview, Mo.; four grandsons: James Gutierrez, Christopher Thompson, Jay Cardens and Adam Thompson; one granddaughter, Sherri Colvin Connite; three great-grandsons, two great-granddaughters, two great-great grandsons, one great-great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Saturday at the Union Hill Baptist Church in Holts Summit, with the Rev. Frank Whitney officiating. Interment followed in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens, Jefferson City, Mo. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Union Hill Baptist Church Building Fund or the New Bloomfield Alumni Scholarship Fund. Arrangements were under the direction of Slater-Millard Family Funeral Chapel.
