Mary Henke

Funeral Mass for Mary Rose Henke, 83, Shawnee, was Saturday, Nov. 21, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Shawnee.
Mrs. Henke died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Shawnee Gardens Nursing Center.
She was born March 13, 1926, in Shawnee, the daughter of George and Leona Haas. She was a graduate of St. Joseph High School.
Mrs. Henke worked at Western Auto Supply Co., Kansas City Women’s Chamber of Commerce, Lee’s Secretarial Service, Universal Press Syndicate/Andrews-McMeel, and Sach’s Electric.
Until recently, she resided at Overland Park Place, where she was an ambassador, Wii bowling champion and enjoyed bingo and other activities. Many who knew her referred to her as “Sweet Mary.”
Mary married Albert C. Henke on Sept. 13, 1947. He died March 19, 2009.
Survivors include four children, Nancy Henke-Konopasek, Marsha (Pete) Cahill, Don (Kim) Henke, and Sharon (Paul) Cahill; a sister, Irene Smeltzer; sister-in-laws Jane Scherman, Bonnie Brown, and Betty Henke; and five grandchildren.
