Mary Holtzman Rice

Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Katherine Holtzman Rice, De Soto, 86, were Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Eudora. Burial will follow in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery.
Mrs. Rice died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at Olathe Medical Center.
She was born April 4, 1923, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Jerome E. and Gertrude P. Kelly Holtzman.
Mrs. Rice worked in quality control as a lab technician for Hercules Inc. She worked as a precinct official for the Johnson County Election Board. She also was a tax preparer for H&R Block until retirement in 1996.
She married Harry LeRoy Rice Dec. 3, 1943, in Savannah, Ga. He died June 15, 1993.
Survivors include five daughters, Vicki Hall and husband Danny, De Soto, Roni Fortner, Claremore, Okla., Kathy Rice, San Antonio, Ginger Ponton and husband Mike, Lansing, and Donna Rice, De Soto; three sons, Joseph Rice and wife Cindy, Midland, Texas, Kevin Rice and wife Sue, Lawrence, and Michael Rice, Omaha, Neb.; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
The family suggests memorials to Holy Family Catholic Church or the Alzheimer’s Association, sent in care of the mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
