Mass of Christian Burial for Fred J. Pretz Jr., 85, Overland Park, were Saturday, Jan. 24, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Entombment was in Prince of Peace Mausoleum, Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa.
Mr. Pretz died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 26, 1923, in Turner, the son of Fred J. Sr. and Mable K. (Pearce) Pretz.
Mr. Pretz was a graduate of Turner High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in Europe. He was a machinist for Santa Fe Railway, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists Local No. 356 and of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. After only a few months at Rose Estates, Fred received the Good Neighbor Award.
On Nov. 26, 1942, he married Rose A. Preston in Kansas City, Kan. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include five children, Rick, Connie Pretz-Haldiman and Mike Pretz, all of Overland Park, Greg, Westchester, Ohio,and Deb Pretz-Budenbender, Shawnee; a sister, Dorothy Ring, Kansas City, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to Kansas School for the Deaf, 450 E. Park St., Olathe, KS 66061.
