Shawnee — Services for Hugh K. Roe, 83, Shawnee (formerly of Fort Worth, Texas) will be at 9 a.m. Friday, March 27, at Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee followed by internment at 11 a.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 4101 S. Fourth St., Leavenworth.
Mr. Roe died Friday, March 20, 2009, at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Merriam.
He was born Oct. 22, 1925, in Abilene, Texas. He graduated from high school in Dickson, Okla., in 1943. He received a degree from Northeastern College in Tahlequah, Okla., and a master’s degree in education from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Mr. Roe served as an officer in the U.S. Merchant Marines from 1943 to 1947. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1953.
Mr. Roe was in education for 32 years, including 25 years with the Fort Worth Independent School District. He retired in 1985 as a life member of the National Education Association and the Texas State Teachers Association.
He attended services with his wife at St. George Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Jeanne Marie Peters, Kalamazoo, Mich., and their children, Susan Roe (Rene duCret), Elizabeth Barton (Mark), Thomas Roe (Lucia), James Roe (Elizabeth), Jeanne Dillenbeck (Todd), Patricia Maguire (Gary), and Robert Roe (Shelley); 10 grandchildren; and his siblings, Betty Tom Thomas, Mildred Mobbs, Martha John and Daniel Roe.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee.
The family suggests memorials to the Hugh K. and Jeanne Roe Scholarship Fund, sent in care of Community Foundation of North Texas, 306 W. Seventh St., Fort Worth Club Building, Suite 306, Fort Worth, TX 76102.
