Ray Essary

Kansas City, Kan. — Services for Ray Essary, 72, of Kansas City, Kan., will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 7, at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, Kansas City, Kan. Burial will be in Chapel Hill-Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Essary died Saturday, May 2, 2009, at Providence Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 18, 1936, in Stillwell, Okla., the son of Sherman and Lillie Magdalene Essary.
Mr. Essary had lived in the Kansas City area most of his life, graduating from Wyandotte High School in 1955. He was a Marine Corps veteran and a grocery store manager, working for Milgrams, Foodland and Save Mart for 40 years before retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include his high school sweetheart and wife of 51 years, Carolyn A. Essary, of the home; three children, Cindy Stephens and her husband, Tom, Bonner Springs, Sandy “Sam” Roady and her husband, Mike, Merriam, and Chris Essary and his wife, Sharon, Rogers, Ark.; a brother, Chuck Essary and his wife, Beverly, Westwood, Kan.; four grandchildren; and his faithful dog Cooper.
The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association or American Stroke Association, sent in care of the funeral home, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, KS 66112.
