Memorial services for Michael D. Douglas, 68, Shawnee, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at Salem Lutheran Church, 9143 Haskins, Lenexa. He will be cremated.
Mr. Douglas died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center
He was born Aug. 14, 1941, in Gary, Ind., the son of Morris and Mary Cledith (Hall) Douglas. He graduated Portage High School in 1961.
After graduation, Mr. Douglas served in the U.S. Army as a mail clerk and drill sergeant during the Vietnam War. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, where he earned his bachelor’s degree, He received his master’s in education administration from Texas A&I and was working on his doctorate at Kennedy Western University.
Mr. Douglas retired from the Kansas City, Mo., School District in 2008, after 15 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Christine (Wussow) Douglas; two sons, Michael Jay Douglas and his wife, Kelly, Millsville, Pa., and Anthony Morris Douglas, Shawnee; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Douglas Williams and her husband, Timothy, Gary, Ind., and Rebecca Grace Douglas Duncan and her husband, Michael, San Diego; two brothers, Leonard Dennis Douglas, Chicago, and James Thomas Douglas and his wife, Timaree, Gary, Ind
