Mary Ohler
Services for Mary Louise (VanTuyl) Ohler, 83, Basehor, were Monday, Oct. 26, at Fairmount United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Ohler died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at her home.
She was born May 18, 1926, in Leavenworth, the daughter of William R. and Hilda M. VanTuyl.
Mrs. Ohler was a member of Fairmount United Methodist Church, was the church secretary and president of the church’s Women’s Society. She was a member of Merry Matrons Club, Dreams Come True Club, Leavenworth County Council, Basehor Park Board, Basehor Community Education Council and Quilt Club. Mrs. Ohler was the 1990 Basehor Citizen of the Year for her volunteer work.
She had worked for the U.S. government and retired in 1986 after 26 years of service.
She married Hugh Ohler on Feb. 22, 1945 at Basehor. He died in 1998.
Survivors include six children, Cheryl Blackburn and husband, Curly, Tonganoxie; Gary Ohler and wife, Reba, Tonganoxie, Mike Ohler and wife, Phyllis, Vero Beach, Fla., Patrick Ohler and wife, Judy, Piper, Cathy Grigsby, Bonner Springs and Steve Ohler and wife, Jean, Bonner Springs; 20 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Dorothy McNamee, Betty Scheller, Edna Eklund and Jean Theno; and a brother, Richard VanTuyl.
