Dorothy Kincaid
Memorial services for Dorothy (Funk) Kincaid, 88, of Lenexa and previously of the Monticello area in Shawnee, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at Monticello United Methodist Church, 75th Street and Mize Road. Burial will be in the Monticello Union Cemetery.
Mrs. Kincaid died Wednesday Sept. 16, 2009.
She was born June 24, 1921, in Monticello Township, the daughter of John and Alice (Hodges) Funk. At the age of 6 months she was baptized in the Monticello United Methodist Church, a church her grandparents help found, and became a member at the age of 12.
Mrs. Kincaid worked at Nellie Don as a seamstress and the Sunflower Ordnance Plant in support of the U.S. effort in World War II. She also worked at Sears & Roebuck as a sales clerk and finished her working career as a bartender and waitress.
She spent her remaining years as an active participant in Monticello United Methodist Women, 3M Club and Monticello Historical Society, where she quilted and helped with the organization of various functions.
She married Lawrence Thoele in 1937, and to this marriage four children were born. She married Charles Kincaid in 1958 and was widowed in 1987.
Survivors include two sons, John Thoele and wife, Carolyn, North Kansas City, Mo., and George Thoele and wife, Carol, of Springdale, Ark.; two daughters, Dorothy Geniuk and husband, Gene, Smithville, Mo., and Marie Rabenau and husband, Bob, Kansas City, Kan.; 27 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; and 33 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, prior to the service at the church.
Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Bonner Springs, is handling arrangements.
