Ray Benz
Services for Ray Benz, 74, of Bonner Springs, were Wednesday, March 31, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Basehor. Burial was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan.
Mr. Benz died Saturday, March 27, 2010.
He was born June 12, 1935, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of John Raymond and Julia Benz.
Mr. Benz relocated in 1965 to Kansas City, where he began a career as an entrepreneur. His businesses included Benz Building Maintenance, real estate investment and other successful ventures.
His many interests included traveling, fishing, river rafting, camping and cooking. One of his significant life avocations was his recovery from alcoholism, which began October 29, 1969.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn.
Survivors include four children, Jeff Benz and his wife, Terri, John Benz and his wife, April, Elaine Fowler and her husband, Ray, and Marcy Masters and her husband, Ted; 16 grandchildren; three brothers, Jim Benz, Tom Benz, and Mike Benz, a sister, Mary Ann Benz, all of St. Louis; a sister-in-law, Mary Freitag, York Harbor, Maine; and all of his brothers and sisters in recovery.
Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Bonner Springs, handled arrangements.
