Robert Nelson

Services for Robert R. Nelson, 82, were Tuesday, Aug. 10, at McPherson Free Methodist Church. Burial was in McPherson Cemetery.
Mr. Nelson died Thursday, Aug, 5, 2010, at The Cedars retirement community in McPherson.
He was born Jan. 18, 1928, in Emporia, the son of Wayne and Grace Nelson.
Mr. Nelson received his master’s degree from Emporia State Teachers College and went on to serve as teacher, administrator and principal at several public schools including those in Clement, Emporia, Goddard and Bonner Springs.
He served as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948.
Mr. Nelson was a member of McPherson Free Methodist Church and was active in the community, serving as General Conference delegate of the Free Methodist Church, past president of Bonner Springs Lions Club and a member of Life Lines Inc. board of directors.
Survivors include his wife, Cleora, of the home; three sons, Philip (Carolyn) Nelson, McPherson, David (Marsha) Nelson, Bonner Springs, James (Julie) Nelson, Salina; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three foster great-grandchildren.
