Ben Martin
Services for Ben Martin, 62, Basehor, will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 5, at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, Kan. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Martin died Thursday, July 1, 2010, from complications arising from injuries sustained in a June 13 car accident.
He was born Dec. 24, 1947, the son of Alvin and Mildred Martin.
Upon graduation from Washington High School in Kansas City, Kan., Mr. Martin joined the Navy. He traveled the globe for six years, serving his country in the submarine service.
After the Navy, he returned to Kansas City and was hired by the Union Pacific Railroad, where he eventually became a locomotive engineer, and worked there until 1995.
Mr. Martin supported the Roger Sherman Masonic Lodge and enjoyed tinkering in his garage, both habits he acquired from his late father. He held in high esteem the many friends and acquaintances he met a Kelley’s Grille in Basehor.
He wife of 42 years, Cindy, affectionately known as “Sam,” died in July 2009.
Survivors include his mother, Mildred; a brother, Ronald; in-laws, Lawrence and Eulah Smith, and the family of Steve and Rae Anne Smith.
A visitation will precede the funeral from noon to 2 P.M. at the funeral home.
