Betty Lassiter
A memorial service for Betty Lou Lassiter, 85, Merriam, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Shawnee.
Mrs. Lassiter died Sunday, March 7, 2010.
She was born on March 9, 1924, in Osborn, Mo. She grew up there, and moved in 1942 to Maryville, Mo., to attend Northwest Missouri State College. She received her Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in music, in 1946.
She married the Rev. Arleigh W. Lassiter on June 28, 1947, and they moved to Kansas City, Mo.
Mrs. Lassiter was the organist at Church of the Good Shepherd from 1947 to 1967, at Avondale Methodist Church for several years and at St. Luke’s from 1980 to 1999. She and her husband moved in 1979 to Merriam.
She was a member of the American Guild of Organists, and assisted with many organizations within the church.
Survivors include her husband, Arleigh; two daughters, Cheryl Ball and husband Gary, and Charlene Lassiter; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Don Crane, Cameron, Mo.
A granddaughter preceded her in death.
The family suggests memorials to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Alzheimer’s Association, or Grace Hospice, sent in care of Amos Family Chapel, 10900 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66012.
