Elizabeth Ashbrook

Shawnee – Services for Elizabeth Ashbrook, 84, Shawnee, were Thursday, March 11, at Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Burial was at Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney.
Mrs. Ashbrook died Monday, March 8, 2010.
She was born Nov. 24, 1925, in rural Fort Scott, the daughter of Herman and Lottie Toepfer.
She attended college at Fort Scott Junior College and Pittsburg State Teachers College, now Pittsburg State University. Elizabeth taught at a one-room grade school in Pleasant Valley. Then she taught in Caney. She later taught as a substitute teacher.
In 1964, she and her family moved to Shawnee. Mrs. Ashbrook worked for 22 years for Pyramid Life Insurance Company in Mission. She and her husband retired in 1988.
She enjoyed being a volunteer for charity work by helping at church events. She was a member of Caney United Methodist Church and later a member of the Shawnee United Methodist Church.
Elizabeth married Orville Ashbrook on June 5, 1949. He survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Denise Dickson and spouse, Jaye; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Earnest Toepfer, and his spouse, Freda; and a sister-in-law.
An infant son, James Scott Ashbrook, died earlier.
