William Carnahan

A memorial service for William Paul Carnahan, 84, of Camden, S.C., will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 3, at First Christian Church, Leavenworth. A reception is to follow the service at the church.

Mr. Carnahan died Friday, Dec. 18, 2009.
He was born on May 22, 1924, in Blue Rapids, Kan., the son of the late Paul A. and Gladys Kelly Paul Carnahan. He was a graduate of Nine Mile School, Lansing Rural High School and Kansas State College. In addition to being a U. S. World War II Navy veteran, he was a farmer, teacher, and a U.S. Civil Service analyst and statistician for the Department of the Army. He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Camden, and a former member of First Christian Church of Leavenworth. Mr. Carnahan formerly lived in Leavenworth, Rockville, Md., Stone Mountain, Ga., Columbia, S.C. and Camden, S.C., where he was a resident of Pinedale Residential Center, Covenant Place in Sumter and the Karesh Wing.

On April 4, 1947 he was married to Ellen Louise Wiszneauckas in Leavenworth. She died earlier.
Survivors include his children: Cathy Nichols (Jim), Camden, Carol Carnahan, Kensington, Md., and Patricia McKenzie (Kevin), Salisbury, Md.; four grandchildren; two brothers, John Hillis Carnahan (Mary), Brattleboro, Vt., and David Kelly Carnahan (Ansley), Burlington, Vt.
A son, Michael A. Carnahan, died earlier.

The family suggests memorials to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, c/o Joe Graham, 1143 Mathis Court, Camden, SC 29020 or Leavenworth First Christian Church, 130 North 6th Street, Leavenworth, KS 66048-1995.
