Richard Moherman
Services for Richard Lynn Moherman, 76, Wellsville, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Wellsville United Methodist, 302 Locust St. Burial will be in Wellsville Cemetery.
Mr. Moherman died Friday, Oct. 8, 2010, at Olathe Medical Center as a result of a massive brain hemorrhage.
He was born Jan. 12, 1934, in Wellsville, the son of William Henry and Edna Lucille (Van Dyke) Moherman. He graduated from Wellsville High School in 1952 and attended Baker University, where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He graduated from Baker in 1956 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and a minor in business. Upon graduating, on July 15, 1956, he married his college sweetheart, Elizabeth Anne Hopkins, at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Kansas City, Mo.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served two years on active duty, two years in the reserves and two years in the inactive reserves.
After his discharge he began a 42-year career at the Wellsville Bank, serving as bank vice-president, president and finally as chairman of the board. He was active in many community affairs in Wellsville, such as the Chamber of Commerce, serving two terms on the City Council, two terms on the Board of Education and in other community activities. He was instrumental in starting the Wellsville Historical Society. Mr. Moherman loved his hometown and gave to the community wherever he could.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth of the home; three daughters, Diane Elizabeth Angell Nelson (Gregory) Olathe, Nancy Lynn Evans (Stephen), Overland Park, and Susan Gail Swan, Ottawa; and four grandchildren..
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday at Wilson’s Funeral Home, Wellsville.
