Jessie Martin
A prayer service for Jessie “Waneta” Martin, 99, Bonner Springs and previously of Tulsa, Okla., will be 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at Tulsa Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Martin died Wednesday Oct. 13, 2010.
She was born Jan. 27, 1911, the daughter of David and Maddie (Driver) Whitehorn on her family’s farm near Wagoner, Okla. She graduated from Wagoner High School and attended Oklahoma A&M University in Stillwater, Okla., and Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla. She then taught in one-room schools in Wagoner County.
She and her husband raised their children in Tulsa. After moving to Bonner Springs, Mrs. Martin became a member of First Christian Church and was active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship and was a volunteer with Wyandotte County Cancer Action.
Her husband Charles C. Martin, died in 1982.
Survivors include two children, Charlya (Tom) Cooley, Bonner Springs, and David (Loraine) Martin, New York, NY.; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, at the funeral home.
