Dolores Mills

Graveside services for Dolores Ann Mills, 79, Ravenwood, Mo., and previously of Bonner Springs, will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, at Monticello Union Cemetery in Shawnee.
Mrs. Mills died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010.
She was born Feb. 22, 1931, in Topeka, the daughter of Archie and Marie (Kelsey) Dial. She was raised in Bonner Springs, where she attended school until 1948 before moving with her family to California. She graduated from UCLA and received a master’s degree in elementary Education in 1954. She taught school in Long Beach, Calif., until 1956, when she moved back to Bonner Springs. She was a teacher and principal at the Holiday School, and later was the principal at Sunflower Elementary School. In 1966 she started teaching at Bonner Springs Elementary until she retired in 1994. In 1979 she obtained her Master’s of Science in adult education from Central Missouri State University. She began and taught the GED program for 14 years in the Bonner Springs School District.
Mrs. Mills was a member of Eastern Star.
Survivors include her daughter, Patti Deranek, Ravenwood, Mo.; a son, Kenny Mills, Paola; a sister, Kathleen Hotchin, Jacksonville, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, prior to the service, at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Bonner Springs.
