Joseph Morris
Graveside services for Joseph Aaron Morris, 80, Kansas City, Kan., will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27, at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Mr. Morris died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, surrounded by his family at Kansas University Hospital, Kansas City, Kan.
He was born June 15, 1930, the son of Ai and Elsie Morris of Spencer, Iowa.
As one of six farm kids, Mr. Morris grew up with a strong work ethic and a love of nature. He joined the U.S. Army and severed as a cook during the Korean War.
Mr. Morris worked for Simmons Mattress Co., owned his own lawn and landscaping company, Morris Maintenance Inc., and retired from the Turner School district. He was involved with the Kansas City, Kan., Republican Party and Master Gardeners.
For the last 2 years Mr. Morris has been a loving caregiver to his wife, Melba, who resides at Shawnee Gardens Nursing home. They were married 56 years.
Survivors include his wife, Melba Lungstrom Morris; two sisters, Bethal Smith, Shell Knob, Mo., and June Scott, Spencer Iowa; a son, David D. Morris; a daughter, Mary E. Morford; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, at Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.
