Robert Edens
Memorial services for Robert Ermine Edens, 84, Bonner Springs, will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home. Private family burial will be in Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Mr. Edens died Monday, Aug. 15, 2011 at Bonner Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Dec. 31, 1926, in Edsen, Tenn., and was raised in Rupert, Idaho. He moved to this area in the early 1950s after serving in the Army. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Japan and later in Korea, where he was a parachutist. He one of the highest ranked boxers in the Army and the Golden Gloves.
After his discharge he became a barber, cutting hair for more than 50 years in Kansas City, Kan., and Johnson County. He retired in 2006.
A great-grandson died in 1999.
Survivors include two daughters Carlene Rasmussen (Dean), Clark, S.D., and Terry Edens, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; a son, Rick Gibson (Linda), Plano, Texas; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three stepchildren, Vicki Baker (Jim), Bonner Springs, Robi Weber (Joanne), Shawnee, and Barbara Guthrie (Bob), Frisco, Texas; 10 stepgrandchildren,; 25 stepgreat-grandchildren; and his friend and former wife, Leola “Lee” Edens, Bonner Springs
