Charles Van Hee
Mass of Christian Burial for Charles (Charlie) J. Van Hee, 91, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Shawnee. Burial will be in Resurrection Prince of Peace Mausoleum, Lenexa.
Mr. Van Hee died Friday, Dec. 16, 2011.
He was born Dec. 6, 1920, the son of Gustav Van Hee and Mary Maes Van Hee.
He and his wife, the former Bernice Lust, farmed at their Nieman location where it has been said they had the “best produce in town.” At one time Mr. Van Hee operated 10 greenhouses.
Mr. Van Hee was active in the local Belgium community and a was member of Knights of Columbus Council 2332 as a 3rd Degree Knight for more than 50 years.
He and his wife spent nearly 70 years together before she ied June 9, 2011.
Survivors include four daughers, Darlene (Bob) Zukel, Doris (Jim) Peckron, Mary Lee (Steve) Dillbeck, and Christine (David) Ferguson; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, with a rosary at 6 p.m. at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.
The family suggests memorials to Good Shepherd Catholic Church or Alzheimer’s Association – Heart of America Chapter, sent in care of the funeral chapel, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203.
