Horace Dowell

Horace S. Dowell, 81, of Shawnee, KS passed away Jan. 31, 2012. Horace was born in Chillicothe, MO on October 26, 1930. He served for 4 years in the U.S. Navy and had a 36 year career with Hallmark Cards. He was a loving and compassionate husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle and he will be greatly missed. Horace was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Horace and Elizabeth Dowell of Chillicothe, MO, his sister, Mary Beth Spencer of Denver, CO, a son Greg Dowell (Jan) of Shawnee, KS, and a daughter Pamela Martinez (John) of Lawrence, KS. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret (Maggie) Dowell, his children: Larry Dowell (Lee Ann) of Overland Park, KS, Chris Dowell (Becky) of Lenexa, KS, Mike Dowell (Kim) of Shawnee, KS, Brian Dowell (Joany) of Shawnee, KS, fourteen grandchildren, one great grandchild, nine nieces and nephews, and many loving in-laws and friends. A visitation was held Thursday, Feb. 2, from 6 to 8 pm with a rosary at 6 pm, all at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Mass was held Friday, Feb. 3, at 11 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shawnee, KS. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery.
