James Finley
James Hugh Finley, “Jim”, 92, of Bonner Springs, KS passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Lansing, KS. Funeral Mass Services will be at 10 AM, Friday, August 29, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Johnson Drive and Monticello Road in Shawnee, KS with burial to follow in the Bonner Springs Cemetery. Friends may call at the visitation from 6 to 8 PM, Thursday evening, August 28, at the church, where the Rosary Service will be at 8 PM. The family suggests Memorial contributions to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church athletic fund. Jim was born on May 13, 1922 in Blackwater, MO and was a longtime area resident. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II serving in North Africa. He worked for T.W.A. for 34 years as a machinist retiring in 1984. He served as the athletic director for the Area Catholic Schools C.Y.O. for many years and also served as the recreation director in Bonner Springs for many years. He was a member of the Bonner Springs School Board for 20 years and he was the sportswriter for the Chieftain Newspaper in Bonner Springs for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Dolores M. Finley in 2011 and is survived by five children Carol Bristow, Jim “Bub” Finley, Linda Mulcahy, Mark Finley and Michael Finley. 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
